It's possible to use a custom-made version of the Chat Room. More precisely, you can choose
your own "Display", "Reload" and "Color" values. As mentioned before "Display" determines
how many messages are to be shown every time and "Reload" says how often the message window
is to be reloaded/updated. The default values are 15 and 10 respectively. "Color" is the
background color of the messages in the message window.
If you choose 'Smart' as 'Reload' setting, the message window will be reloaded only
when a new message has arrived. This is made possible by a Java applet.
Netscape users:
Quit the browser, then add the following line to your prefs.js (or
preferences.js) file:
user_pref("security.lower_java_network_security_by_trusting_proxies", true);
Then start the browser again and it should be OK.
If 'Never' is the current setting for "Reload", the message window is never updated. To get
back to automatic reloading, you'll have to choose another option in the "Reload" list and
press
"Submit." After that you need to click the "Reload!" link for the change to be effectuated.
Because some browsers don't support cookies, some of you will have to click the "Reload!"
link one time for the settings to work. When you click the this link the message window will
be reloaded. From now on your personal settings will work.
If you want to change the settings, simply choose a value in any of the
pull down menus and press the "Submit" button. Your settings will be used the next time
the message window is reloaded.
