Willie Thorne was whitewashed by the Welsh teenager Mark Williams. "Although losing 5-0 is obviously a bit embarrassing I don't think I did all that much wrong. It was like playing against one of the top seeds."

James Wattana admitted to being "very, very lucky" after scraping into the quarter-finals. "I was very nervous out there, I wasn't cueing well either, but I kept fighting all the way", said Wattana. He now faces Jimmy White and will probably have to play better to beat him.

Before this match, Ronnie O'Sullivan had five straight defeats against John Parrott. Yesterday, Parrott appeared to be on his way to another win in middle of the deciding frame as he led 41-0 with the balls nicely placed. But he missed a simple blue and then O'Sullivan went on to clinch the frame.

John Higgins cracked the 100.000 Pounds seasonal prize money barrier for the first time in his professional career by beating Darren Morgan. The 19-year old Scot (winner of the Skoda Grand Prix in October) now faces Alan McManus in the third round.

The cool Londoner Peter Ebdon staged one of the best escapes of his career to beat the favourite Stephen Hendry. He fought back from 4-2 down to win 5-4.Stephen Hendry's break of 141 is highest so far in the tournament.

Ronnie O'Sullivan claimed he was still not satisfied with his form despite becoming the youngest ever winner of the Masters title. "I'm delighted with what I've achieved but I'm still not happy with my game," said O'Sullivan. "I hope people don't get offended with what I say but I'm still searching for the missing part." For the win of the Benson & Hedges Masters, Ronnie O'Sullivan received 120.000 Pounds. The runner-up, 19-year-old John Higgins, received 63.000 Pounds, which is the biggest pay-cheque of his career, so far.
